Hannah is an Anne Kantor Fellow at The Australia Institute<\/a>,\u00a0Australia’s leading progressive public policy think tank,\u00a0<\/span>where she is\u00a0 r<\/span>esearching climate and energy policy.\u00a0<\/span>Hannah is a former research Fellow and alum of New York University Abu Dhabi, where she leveraged geospatial data to study climate impacts. She aspires to work at the intersection between research and policy to aid our transition towards a low-carbon economy and climate resilient future.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/b><\/p>\n Q. What opportunities have you pursued since graduating?<\/b><\/p>\n Since graduating, I\u2019ve held three\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0fellowships. What I’ve appreciated most about working in shorter-term positions is gaining a macro-level view of environmental\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0and advocacy.<\/span><\/p>\n My first\u00a0<\/span>fellowship<\/a>\u00a0was with NYU Abu Dhabi to conduct independent\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>. I spent a year examining the impact of drought on Australian elections. It was a deep-dive into the academic\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0process, with a ton of re-drafting and re-coding, and set a strong foundation for rigorous analysis.<\/span><\/p>\n The second fellowship was a joint-position between a\u00a0<\/span>Canadian non-profit<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>Data-Driven EnviroLab<\/a>. Even though the position was entirely remote, I really enjoyed connecting with my cohort of fellows and learned to work across organisations and translate\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0into\u00a0<\/span>accessible media<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019m now starting a fellowship at\u00a0<\/span>a public policy think tank<\/a>\u00a0in Australia. I\u2019ll be focusing on Australian climate and energy policy and in the words of the Australia Institute, hope to produce \u201c<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0that matters\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n [\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=”4.8.1″ _module_preset=”default” custom_margin=”-42px|auto||auto||”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.8.1″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_text _builder_version=”4.8.1″ _module_preset=”default” custom_padding=”||0px|||”]<\/p>\n Q. How have you stayed connected with NYU Abu Dhabi and the UAE?<\/b><\/p>\n Even though I left Abu Dhabi in August 2020, I\u2019m still there in spirit (and Zoom calls). I\u2019ve been collaborating with the\u00a0<\/span>Center for Global Sea Level Change<\/a>\u00a0on grant proposals and\u00a0<\/span>research<\/span>\u00a0to do with sea-level rise and coastal adaptation in the UAE. I\u2019ve also had the chance to develop the\u00a0<\/span>Geopolitics & Ecology of Himalayan Water<\/a>\u00a0with eARThumanities and am amazed by how much it has grown. This semester, I\u2019ll also be on the advisory board of a climate action conference led by NYUAD undergrads, and am excited to see what current students are working on.<\/span><\/p>\n Beyond the university, I continue to serve as a\u00a0<\/span>UAE Ambassador for Nature<\/a>\u00a0with Emirates Nature-WWF. We\u2019re in our \u201cInspire\u201d stage to develop our own events and projects, so I\u2019ve been collaborating with the Environment Agency of Abu Dhabi on an air quality awareness campaign.
