Mark Swislocki is a historian with research interests in China, environmental history, food history, and the writing of global history in the age of the Anthropocene. He is currently writing two books: Green Walls in China<\/i>, a research monograph on the environmental history of China-Himalayan borderlands; and\u00a0The Predicament of History<\/i>:\u00a0Educational Encounters in \u201cGlobal Liberal Arts<\/i>,\u201d a series of linked essays on curricular development and teaching in New York University\u2019s global network.<\/p>\n
He is Editor-in-Chief of the\u00a0Encyclopedia of Asian Environmental History<\/i>\u00a0(Oxford University Press Reference Editions, in progress).\u00a0\u00a0He directs the\u00a0NYU Abu Dhabi Global Asia Initiative<\/a>\u00a0and is \u201cCo-Head Chef\u201d of the\u00a0Anthropocene Research Kitchen<\/a>\u00a0of the Division of Arts and Humanities of NYU Abu Dhabi.<\/p>\n He is Co-PI of the Luce Foundation funded research project: \u201cPort City Environments in Global Asia\u201d (with David Ludden, NYU; and Tansen Sen, NYU Shanghai), 2018-2021 and 2021-2024.<\/p>\n He is the author of\u00a0Culinary Nostalgia: Regional Food Culture and the Urban Experience in Shanghai\u00a0<\/i>(Stanford, 2009) and articles on the history of nutrition, critical animal studies, and the environment.<\/p>\n [\/et_pb_blurb][\/et_pb_column][et_pb_column type=”1_2″ _builder_version=”4.23″ _module_preset=”default” global_colors_info=”{}”][et_pb_blurb title=”Jiun Tan – Research Associate” image=”https:\/\/sites.nyuad.nyu.edu\/globalasiainitiative\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/03\/MG_5655-copy-1.jpg” alt=”Jiun Tan portrait” _builder_version=”4.23″ _module_preset=”default” border_radii_image=”on|27px|27px|27px|27px” global_colors_info=”{}” box_shadow_style_image=”preset2″]<\/p>\n Jiun Tan is a Research Associate of NYU Abu Dhabi’s Global Asia Initiative. Based in the Netherlands, she holds an Erasmus Mundus MA in History in the Public Sphere, as well as a BA in History from NYU Abu Dhabi. She is a writer and researcher, with an interest in the intersections between public history, historical scholarship, and creative writing.<\/p>\n With the support from the Global Asia Initiative, she is currently researching Chinese Migration to the Netherlands. Her research interests also extends to environmental history and diaspora history.<\/p>\n She is working on a novel featuring three characters surviving in Rotterdam during World War II, based on archival research.
