The minor in South Asian studies is administered by the Department of History. It provides a broad perspective on South Asia and opportunities to concentrate on specific areas of interest. Students have many choices of courses and course combinations.<\/p>\n

In addition to the orthodox method of analyzing the semantic and\/or phonetic parts of a character, it provides a virtual space which allows innovative methods from the learners’ perspectives that often closely related to comparative insights into their first languages, diverse cultural backgrounds, individual’s intercultural experiences, and knowledge from cross-disciplinary interactions, etc. In its three years of piloting, it received more than 2,500 contributions from over 200 learners. The current project focuses on increasing the interactions between the site, the materials and the learners, by upgrading the website functions, creating Instagram feeds, designing visual-friendly contents and forming faculty and student communities around the learning of the Chinese characters. ” link_option_url_new_window=”on” locked=”off” global_colors_info=”{}”]<\/p>\n

Beyond the scope of conventional area studies, the innovative interdisciplinary major in Global China Studies allows students to cultivate up-to-date knowledge and critical skills about China. It aims at deepening their understanding of China\u2019s interactions with the wider world as well as comprehend the trends within China, at individual, societal, state, and global levels, and in the context of socio-economic, religious, cultural, and political transformations.<\/p>\n
