This <span class=\"il\">tea<\/span> <span class=\"il\">talk<\/span> will therefore present a number of selected highlights from the history of <span class=\"il\">tea<\/span>. How did <span class=\"il\">tea<\/span> become a cultivated plant, and how did this cultigen reach China? How was <span class=\"il\">tea<\/span> subsequently transformed in China? What were some of the <\/span><span>economic and environmental ramifications of <span class=\"il\">tea<\/span> on the history of China and of the world?\u00a0<\/span><span>The <span class=\"il\">tea<\/span> trade is responsible for paper money, the Opium Wars and the existence of Hong Kong. <span class=\"il\">Tea<\/span> was a decisive factor in theActs of Navigation, the Anglo-Dutch wars and the American war of independence. The economy of <span class=\"il\">tea<\/span> was crucial to the economy and the military defences of T\u00e1ngand S\u00f2ng dynasty China and moulded the evolution of Chinese art and culture. The <span class=\"il\">tea<\/span> trade with the West played a role in sowing the seeds of the T<\/span><span>\u00e0<\/span><span>ip\u00edng rebellion and so ultimately of the Chinese revolution led by Dr.Sun Yat-sen and the subsequent Communist rebellion led by M\u00e1o Z<\/span><span>\u00e9<\/span><span>d\u014dng<\/span><span>.
