Book Talk | A Feminist Theory of Violence with Françoise Vergès

Overview

Book Talk | A Feminist Theory of Violence with Françoise Vergès

November 22 | 1:00pm – 2:00 pm GST | Register here

Open to the NYU Abu Dhabi community and by invitation.

Professor Françoise Vergès shares insight on the recent translation of A Feminist Theory of Violence (Pluto Press, 2022). Vergès’ work interrogates the language of “violence” and “gender” in contemporary legal discourse and seeks new models of justice that offer alternatives to globalized norms of punitive carcerality. Working at the intersections of feminism and anti-racism, her interdisciplinary and intercultural scholarship provides an opportunity to explore the specific role of translation in articulating and disseminating political debates.

Preceded by a light lunch at 12:30pm and followed by a book signing with copies of A Feminist Theory of Violence and A Decolonial Feminism (Pluto Press, 2021) available for purchase.
