The A&H Research Kitchens initiative is delighted to be launching a 5th research kitchen during this academic year:  المشهد Al Mashhad. This translates roughly to ‘The Scene’. Whereas the identity of the four existing kitchens lies in their thematic contents, Al Mashhad is defined by its reference to place, not only in its geographical sense, but also in its social, cultural, and artistic dimensions.

This kitchen aims to foster research projects that engage substantially with the region. ‘The region’ can be understood broadly to include the reaches of the Indian Ocean, but priority will be given to engagement here at home: in Abu Dhabi, and in the UAE. A primary aim of this kitchen is to support the development of strong relationships with local and regional institutions, with an eye to increasing the positive impact of our research on our surroundings.

As with the other four kitchens, the first year will be devoted to brainstorming, networking, and development activities aimed at building a collaborative team of kitchen members.  With that in mind, you are all warmly invited to this kickoff event.  This is an opportunity to meet and hear from each other about ideas for the kitchen, as well as to clarify how interested members can apply for funding to further the kitchen’s development this year.
