Overview

Photo Exhibition | Material Roots | Heritage, Memory and Mobility Research Kitchen

A6-Upper Atrium | November 14 – November 24

The ‘Material Roots’ exhibition of photographs and accompanying textual provocations draws on linked conceptions of roots and routes through the work of six of the kitchen’s interlinked sub-projects. The exhibit opens with an oversized world map that illustrates lateral and vertical movements of passage and the material cultures, migratory journeys and repositories of memory explored by the kitchen. Tarred twine is used to ‘map’ the routes/roots to evoke not only the seafaring traditions that link all of the kitchen’s projects, but also to represent the concept of weaving a ‘fabric’ of interconnected and transdisciplinary research.

The six projects include: Tree Routed – Alia Yunis; Ghost Gardens – Clare Lesser; Sanctuaries of Faith – Salila Kulshreshtha; That Impossible Blue – George Jose; Gahwa – Marzia Balzani; Museum of Migration and Memory – Robert Deguzman.
