Whereas the identity of the four existing kitchens lies in their thematic contents, Al Mashhad is defined by its reference to place, not only in its geographical sense, but also in its social, cultural, and artistic dimensions. This year, the kitchen aims to foster research projects that engage substantially with the region. \u2018The region\u2019 can be understood broadly to include the reaches of the Indian Ocean, but priority will be given to engagement here at home: in Abu Dhabi, and in the UAE. A primary aim of this kitchen is to support the development of strong relationships with local and regional institutions, with an eye to increasing the positive impact of our research on our surroundings.<\/p>\n
