The focus of the research group is to discuss the specific and peculiar character of the urban and natural environment in key Gulf cities, beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries. The group is interested in looking at the issue of \u2018representation,\u2019 a largely neglected issue in the Gulf. The common theme and starting point is ecology, urban space and materiality to address human experience, landscape and place-making in the city. This requires a different approach to research, documentation and representation. The group identifies and critically explores the definition and transformation of common spaces in the UAE and the Gulf. From an interdisciplinary point of view, at the intersection of architecture, art, landscape architecture and urbanism, the group explores the multiple forms of urban liminalities, processes and counter urbanization in the Gulf. Liminal Urbanities also connects materiality with traces of the past and memory.<\/p>\n
