His work explores the urban periphery as a crucial, if undervalued,\u00a0 site for culture and politics that generates a distinctive form of urbanism especially in the global south. He studies the manner in which quotidian processes of work and consumption craft citizenship even as it limits rights and produces the conditions of precarity and informality.\u00a0 George is interested in the multiple ways in which the contemporary city is imagined, produced and consumed in its margins, by its marginalized citizens. He has held research, teaching, and leadership positions in the academia and not-for-profit sectors. George was Dean of the Jyoti\u00a0 Dalal School of Liberal Arts, NMIMS University, Mumbai; the inaugural Program Director for\u00a0 Asia Society India; Program Officer with India Foundation for the Arts (IFA), Bengaluru; and\u00a0 a Research Fellow at Forum Transregionale Studien, Berlin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>George Jose is an urban anthropologist researching metropolitan transformation in and of contemporary south Asia.
