Bio
Dr. Wael Rabeh received his PhD in Biochemistry in the lab of Prof Paul F. Cook in the field of enzymology. His research is devoted to the characterization and understanding of disease mechanism, and the discovery and design of new therapeutics. The mechanistic understanding of the disease-causing protein assists in the discovery and design of small molecule to function as an activator or inhibitor of the protein target.  A focused approach that uses the proteins structural information and computer simulation to design a specific therapeutics that is biophysically and biochemically tested for its effect on human proteins with medical relevance. Protein targets include human Hexokinase II, Cystic Fibrosis Trans-membrane conductance Regulator (CFTR) ion channel, and Septins GTP-Binding proteins. In addition, Dr. Rabeh is interested to study the color producing mechanism of light produced from the luciferase reaction as part of his work in the field of bioluminescence.
