On Thursday, April 25th, 2024, Prof. Alireza Khani delivered a talk on “Reshaping Public Transportation: Technology-Driven Strategies for Transit Enhancement” as part of the CITIES Seminar Series. This presentation introduced planning and operational tools for leveraging technology to address transit challenges. The first part presented a planning model for the incremental transition of a bus network to battery electric buses (BEB). A two-stage stochastic optimization model is presented, which determines planning decisions such as route selection for electrification and charging station assignment, as well as operational decisions like fleet size and charging schedule considering uncertainties in energy consumption. In the second part, an autonomous mobility-on-demand (AMoD) system was addressed the last-mile access gap.
